Homam is to purify the surrounding environment, remove obstacles, and bring blessings from the deities. There are different types of homams for various purposes, such as Ganapathi Homam, Lakshmi Narayana Homam, Rudra Homam, etc. 

Agni is the god of fire and one of the most essential Vedic deities. He is the mediator between gods and humans and carries sacrifices and offerings. He is also the symbol of life, purity, and transformation. He is worshipped in various forms, such as the domestic fire, the lightning, and the sun. He has many names.

Navagraha Homam Kit Contents.

Navagraha homam is a fire ritual performed to appease the solar system's nine planets, which are believed to influence human life and destiny. It is done to reduce the adverse effects of the planets and enhance their positive energies. It involves offering various materials to the fire god Agni, while chanting mantras for each planet. Navagraha homam can be done for multiple purposes, such as improving health, wealth, career, marriage, family, etc. 

Some of the materials used in Navagraha homam are:

  • Turmeric powder is used to make a paste that is applied to the idols or pictures of the planets. It symbolizes purity and auspiciousness.

  • Kumkum: It is a red powder used to mark the forehead of the planets. It represents devotion and honour.

  • Sandalwood paste/powder: It is used to make a paste applied to the idols or pictures of the planets. It signifies fragrance and a cooling effect.

  • Incense sticks create a pleasant aroma, offering smoke to the planets. They denote respect and reverence.

  • Camphor is a white substance burned to produce a bright flame and smoke offered to the planets. It signifies light and clarity.

  • Flowers are used to decorate the idols or pictures of the planets. They symbolize beauty and freshness.

  • Fruits: They are used to offer food to the planets. They represent nourishment and sweetness.

  • Betel leaves and nuts: They offer a sign of hospitality and friendship to the planets. They indicate freshness and vitality.

  • Coconuts are used to break and offer as a symbol of sacrifice and surrender to the planets. They imply completeness and wholeness.

  • Dry coconuts: They fill with ghee and burn as a symbol of offering the ego and desires to the planets. They imply detachment and renunciation.

  • Ghee is a clarified butter used to fuel the fire and pour as an offering to the planets. It signifies purity and richness.

  • Rice: It is used to sprinkle on the fire as an offering to the planets. It represents abundance and prosperity.

  • Sesame seeds are sprinkled on the fire as an offering to the planets. They symbolize longevity and health.

  • Jaggery: It is a brown sugar that used to be sprinkled on the fire as an offering to the planets. It represents sweetness and happiness.

  • Navadhanya: Nine types of grains are offered to the nine planets. They are wheat, rice, green gram, black gram, Bengal gram, sesame, horse gram, barley, and kidney beans. They represent the nine aspects of life.
