Jupiter is the Guru of the Gods. Jupiter is called Guru in Sanskrit. Guru means heavy because he is heavy with knowledge. Jupiter is also called Brihaspati. Brihaspati is the name of the Guru of all the demigods on the higher planets. He is the advisor, or teacher, of the demigods. From these designations, we derive the nature of the effects of Jupiter's planet.
